Let's Join Forces: Ugandan Children Are in Danger
You may remember that in 2022, the Jane Goodall Institute and the Planetrise Foundation traveled to Uganda as part of the "Harbors and School Boats for Uganda" project, supported by Hungary Helps. At the Bwama Island school on Lake Bunyonyi, around 400 children attend classes—but only a few of them can swim.
The children—and even the adults—are in serious danger, as those who never learn to swim as kids often remain unable to do so as adults.
We decided that this must change. This year, a mobile pool will be built at the top of the island, and from August, swimming lessons will begin. The long-term dream? To establish Uganda's first water polo team. (Fun fact: the island's current football team is called the Bunyonyi Lions!) Got any creative ideas for the name of the water polo team? Let us know!
The fundraising campaign, initiated by the Jane Goodall Institute, the Planetrise Foundation, and the Planetrise Cultural and Environmental Association, aims to support the construction of the swimming platform, pay local swimming instructors, and purchase essential swimming gear. Different donation tiers have been set up to make this possible.
